What happens during my first orthodontic visit?

Your first appointment includes digital photos and a 3D scan, an exam by Dr. Mason, and a discussion of your goals. You’ll leave with a personalized treatment plan and a clear timeline.

Do I need a referral from my dentist to schedule an appointment?

No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to schedule your first orthodontic visit.

How long does a typical appointment take?

Most visits last 30 to 45 minutes, depending on whether it’s a consultation, adjustment, or progress check.

How often will I need to come in for adjustments or checkups?

Typically every 6–10 weeks, though Dr. Mason will set a schedule that fits your treatment goals and progress.

Are clear aligners as effective as traditional braces?

Yes, when worn as directed, aligners can correct many of the same issues as braces. There are tooth problems that aligners correct better than braces and others that braces correct more efficiently than aligners. Dr. Mason will recommend the option best suited to your smile goals.

Are mail-order DIY aligners safe?

Homemade braces and do-it-yourself aligners often lack sufficient professional supervision, which can lead to bite problems and/or tooth damage. Dr. Mason closely monitors every case to keep your treatment both safe and effective.

What are the risks of trying to straighten my teeth at home?

Without X-rays and professional oversight, DIY treatments can cause gum issues, bone loss, or teeth moving into unstable positions.

What should I do if a wire or bracket breaks?

Call our office to schedule a quick repair. You can cover any sharp edges with orthodontic wax until you’re seen.

How do I handle soreness or discomfort after an adjustment?

Mild soreness is normal for a day or two. Over-the-counter pain relievers and a soft-food diet usually help. You may also ask our team about Dental Pain Erasers to help relieve soreness after orthodontic adjustments.

Is a lost retainer an emergency, and what should I do next?

Contact us as soon as possible to prevent teeth from shifting. We’ll arrange a replacement retainer promptly.
